Mustang hardtop convertible kit10/30/2022 ![]() ![]() The undercoating is really tough to remove but is a bit easier when you warm it up with a torch first. Started preparing the floor where the re-enforcing plates will be welded on. I only did the tops that will be closed off when they are welded to the floor. Here goes the seat platforms and the lower re-enforcing plates.īlasted and finished the lower re-enforcing plates. They weld up really nice using 3/8 plug welds and seal welding around the torque boxes. The inner rockers where a lot of work to get in as I had to remove the seat platforms and notch the front and rear torque boxes as well as slit the floor pan. So I got two new ones which worked out pretty well once I tweaked them a bit. I couldn't re-use the Convertible inner rockers I want these in before I cut the roof off. Next I installed two new inner rocker panels. The first thing I did on the coupe was replace the 1% rust, so I replaced the tail light panel ![]() I searched the web to see if any one has done this before but couldn't find any one who has done a 71-73 mustang conversion. So I have set out to convert the 73 coupe into a 73 convertible. MUSTANG HARDTOP CONVERTIBLE KIT FREEThe coupe is 99% rust free so that answer was pretty clear. Once I got the car home I surveyed both cars and counted up the parts I would need to change or replace either way. It ended up costing $975 to ship the car from California to Port Huron Michigan, not much more than just the doors.Īll the time I spent waiting for the car to arrive, I was pondering on what would be better cut up the coupe or convert the coupe to a convertible. So I looked into shipping the doors and some parts and shipping the whole car. Mike suggested that I take the whole parts car. So we got talking about the other parts i need for my project like the B Pillars and the trunk. He had just picked up a parts car for the doors and had the set that he was going to use on his mach.
